Myrick "Freeze" Guillory & Nouveau Zydeco Myrick "Freeze" Guillory, Zydeco's next generation, is bursting on the scene. Having inherited some great songs and a hot band from his mother, Queen Ida, Freeze is charging ahead to carry on both the cultural traditions of Creole/Cajun music and the family tradition of high energy, creative shows. s Freeze, who played his first shows with the Queen Ida band in the mid 1970's, has now become a featured performer with the group. As he strikes out on his own, he will remain committed to the time honored waltzes and peppery two-steps that characterize Ida's shows. However, Freeze is already adding some solid Rhythm and Blues numbers to his show, in keeping with one of Zydeco's most important traditions - innovation. Freeze's songwriting talents are showcased on five of the songs on Ida's current album, "Cooking with Queen Ida", where he also supplies lead vocals and accordion. His own debut album appeared on the GNP label in 1991. The Nouveau Zydeco band features Freeze Guillory on accordion and vocals, and several of the rock-solid artists who currently tour with Queen Ida. Bernard Anderson is a consummate sax artist, at home in both the worlds of rock and jazz. His solos with the Queen Ida band are garnering enthusiastic ovations, and he feels that zydeco gives him an uncharted musical territory where he can unleash his creativity. Erik Nielsen on drums and Terry Buddingh have provided the solid rhthmic underpinnings for Queen Ida for years, and they remain "on the case" for Freeze. The guitar spot is filled by Douglas Dayson a seasoned Bay Area musician. When he is not on the road with Nouveau Zydeco, Freeze continues to appear with the Queen Ida band.
